Mold remediation in Deforest, WI that removes growth and fixes the reason it appeared

We isolate the affected area, remove contaminated materials under negative air pressure, clean what remains and correct the moisture problem behind it.

What remediation actually means

Remediation is not the same as spraying a surface and wiping it down. It is a controlled process for physically removing mold growth from a building and returning affected materials to a normal condition, while keeping spores from spreading into clean areas. The IICRC S520 standard for professional mold remediation describes this approach, and it is the framework our Deforest, WI crews follow. The standard emphasizes removal over simply killing growth, because dead mold can still contain allergens and irritants.

Starting with moisture

Mold grows where moisture persists. Roof leaks, plumbing drips, condensation on cold surfaces, poor bathroom ventilation and past water damage that was never fully dried are the usual causes. If the moisture source is not found and corrected, growth tends to return. For that reason, our assessment always includes a moisture investigation with meters and thermal imaging, and the remediation plan includes steps to stop the water, whether that is a plumbing repair, a roof fix or a ventilation change handled by the right trade.

Containment and air control

The size and location of the growth determine how the work area is set up. Small areas may need only limited containment, while larger projects call for full enclosures of plastic sheeting with zippered entry points. Negative air machines draw air out of the enclosure through HEPA filters, so disturbed particles are captured rather than drifting into the rest of the building. HVAC vents in the work zone are sealed to keep spores out of the ductwork.

Containment stays in place and the air machines keep running for the full duration of removal and cleaning. Technicians inside the enclosure wear respirators and protective clothing, and they check the barriers throughout the day for tears or gaps. Doing this consistently is what keeps a remediation project from turning one contaminated room into several.

Removal and cleaning

Porous materials with growth, such as drywall, ceiling tiles, insulation and carpet, are cut out, bagged inside the containment and removed. Structural wood with surface growth is usually cleaned by HEPA vacuuming, wire brushing or sanding, followed by damp wiping. Hard surfaces are cleaned with suitable products. After removal and cleaning, the area is HEPA vacuumed again and allowed to dry.

Some property owners request independent post-remediation verification, in which an outside professional inspects the area and, if desired, collects samples. We are glad to leave containment in place until that evaluation is complete. Our Mold Testing Inspection page explains testing in more detail.

Rebuilding the space

Once the area passes inspection and moisture readings are normal, the containment comes down and reconstruction begins. New drywall, insulation and finishes restore the room. If growth was extensive and dark in color, our Black Mold Removal page covers how heavy growth situations are handled, including the extra precautions used when colonies have rooted deep into building materials.

Remediation workflow

  1. 1

    Assess

Growth is mapped and the moisture source is identified.

  2. 2

    Contain

Barriers and negative air protect the rest of the building.

  3. 3

    Remove and clean

Remediation testimonies

Comments from Deforest, WI customers who used this service.

A roof leak left mold on the ceiling and inside the closet wall. They built a plastic enclosure, ran filtration for the whole job, and replaced the drywall afterward.
Isabel J.Homeowner, bedroom closet
They found the reason for the mold, a slow leak in the shower valve, and made sure it was repaired before closing the wall.

Mold remediation questions

Can mold be completely eliminated from a home?

Mold spores occur naturally in indoor and outdoor air. Remediation removes growth and brings affected areas back to normal conditions, but no building is spore-proof. Controlling moisture is what prevents regrowth.

Is bleach enough to fix mold?

Bleach may lighten staining on hard surfaces but does not address growth rooted in porous materials, and it does nothing about the moisture source. Professional remediation focuses on removal.

How big does a mold problem need to be before I call?

The EPA suggests that areas larger than about ten square feet, or growth tied to contaminated water or HVAC systems, warrant professional help.

What does remediation cost?

Pricing depends on the size, location and materials involved. An assessment fee applies, and you receive a written scope and estimate before work starts.
